Digital LIteracy: Web Evaluation

What is Web Evaluation?

Web Evaluation is a simple process that allows us to assess whether the website that we're reading is reliable. In terms of research, students must evaluate the websites they're using for their assignment, and make sure they use credible and believable resources. It is especially important with websites since anyone can publish anything online, but this evaluation process can be applied to all research materials.

The CRAAP Test

This short video uses the same criteria as CRAAP, but with different wording.

Turnitin NewsGuard

NewsGuard by Turnitin is a browser extension that helps you assess the reliability of newspapers and websites. A team of trained journalists rates these news and information sites using basic, apolitical journalistic standards.

Each website that has been rated includes a "Nutrition Label" that explains the reasoning behind the rating. Nutrition Labels also include information about each site’s owners, funding, editorial practices, and history.
